Project Gettysburg Leon sponsors two gardens projects at two different schools, one in the barrio of Sutiaba at the school for children with disabilities and one at a public school just outside of the city. Both of these garden projects have a twofold purpose: one is to provide food to the children of these schools and the other purpose is to teach teachers & students at the schools how to manage the garden. The PGL project is managed by young women who are students or recent graduates of the agricultural college in Leon. At the school for children with disabilities there is a wide range of students being taught. Some children have developmental disabilities, some are blind and some are deaf. All of these students participate in the PGL gardens project, learning how to grow the food that is often a part of their school lunch. At both schools, parents have also become involved and are learning skills for home gardens as well.
